FAQs

How much does a sponsorship cost?
The cost to sponsor a child through Sharefish is $37/month. Your sponsorship gift makes an immediate and dramatic impact, enabling a child to receive a high-quality education and dream for the future.

What does sponsorship provide for the child?
Your sponsorship will provide the following for the child you sponsor:

  • A high-quality, values-based education that builds self-confidence
  • Uniforms, shoes and school supplies, which the government  requires to attend school
  • A path to a vocation
  • Mental health support
  • Health education
  • Role models and mentors throughout their education
  • Motivation for delaying pregnancy
  • Daily physical exercise
  • Enrichment opportunities, including futbol (soccer), traditional dance, cooking classes and more

Will I be the only sponsor for the child?
Yes, when you sponsor a child, that child will no longer be available for sponsorship by other donors.

How long does the commitment to sponsorship last?
While we hope that sponsors will commit to supporting their students as long as they are in school, you may cancel your sponsorship at any time. Please reach out to sponsorships@sharefish.org to make any sponsorship changes.

How much of my sponsorship money will directly benefit the child?
100% of sponsorship donations directly fund Sharefish education programs in Honduras. Sponsorship donations are pooled for maximum effectiveness to ensure that the student you have chosen, along with their classmates, will continue to receive these opportunities through Sharefish.

Are my sponsorship donations tax-deductible?
Sharefish is a 501(c)(3) qualified charitable organization. All contributions to Sharefish are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

How does Sharefish work with the local community to implement the sponsorship program?
All Sharefish programs are led by experienced, highly capable and trusted local Honduran leaders who have been involved with Sharefish from the beginning. Beyond being an established best practice for cross-cultural development, having community-trusted local leadership is crucial for day-to-day operations, relationships with students and families, and community partnerships.

The Sharefish Board of Directors and staff in the United States closely monitor all financials and program outcomes.

Can I send money or gifts directly to the child I sponsor?
No money or gifts of any kind should be sent directly to the child you sponsor. This guideline is in place to provide equitable support for all students and avoid problematic perceptions of favoritism.

Can I communicate with the child I sponsor?
Currently, we do not have the staffing capacity to facilitate communications between sponsors and children. As our program grows, we will re-evaluate what we are able to offer to sponsors. If you have any questions, please reach out to sponsorships@sharefish.org

What will I receive as a sponsor?
When you become a Sharefish sponsor, you become part of a passionate group of people who care about the children of El Carrizo. You will receive a welcome packet and special updates and impact stories throughout the year just for sponsors. Most importantly, you will receive the gift of knowing that you are giving a beloved child the right to education, an opportunity to dream, and the ability to break the cycle of poverty.

What happens if the child I sponsor leaves the school?
If your child moves away or leaves school for some other reason, you will be notified in a timely manner by email. With your approval, your sponsorship may be transferred to another child.

Can I pay for my monthly sponsorship in annual payments?
Yes! You are welcome to make your sponsorship gifts on an annual basis. Simply make a note in the donation field that your gift is toward your sponsorship commitment.

Who should I contact with a question about sponsorship?
Please email sponsorships@sharefish.org with questions about the sponsorship program.
